New Business:

Chief Giannotta brought to our attention the cut in funding from DCJS for the DARE program. Chief Giannotta provided a letter of support from his DARE officer Michael Roden. Chief Giannotta requested that our organization send a letter to DCJS asking for the funding to be returned for at least the DARE workbooks. Motion to send letter by Chief Lefancheck, second by Chief . Conway, carried.

Discussion on above noted by Chief Perkins that the funding cut was due to the Governor’s office forcing many cuts. The State Chief’s and State Sheriff’s organizations were not consulted, however DCJS felt it did not have a choice in the many things that need to be cut this year. Expect the cuts to be worse next year.

Committee reports:

Counter terrorism:

Chief Perkins nominated Chief Snell to sit on the board of the Dept of Homeland Security Training Center in Rome, NY. Chief Snell approved.

NYSACOP:

Chief Perkins: 211 waiver issues brought up again. The state is looking to do away with them due to in part for incidents occurring with school districts on Long Island. We need to keep lobbying for DeFrancisco’s bill. However a better avenue to pursue at this point is to look for a change in the 212 section for raising the limit that can be earned of $30,000, to $50,000 or $60,000. There will also be a meeting on Thursday in reference to accreditation issues. And Chief Perkins will be meeting with the Governor too if anyone has any concerns they’d like him to address.
